Reiner's Son Seeks Trust Funds For Defense

The son of acclaimed Hollywood director Rob Reiner is asking a California court to release money from a family trust that he says is needed to pay for his legal defense in a high-profile murder case.

Nick Reiner, 32, has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner. The couple were found stabbed to death at their Los Angeles home in December 2025.

In a petition filed Monday, Reiner's attorneys argue that funds designated for him in a trust established by his parents are being improperly withheld. The filing contends that Reiner was entitled to receive a portion of the trust when he turned 30 and that trustees have failed to distribute the money.

According to court documents, Reiner's legal team says the trust contains at least $1.5 million in assets and that the funds are necessary to secure legal representation and cover other expenses while he remains in custody.

The petition also notes that prominent defense attorney Alan Jackson, who previously represented Reiner before withdrawing from the case, is prepared to resume his representation if funding becomes available.

Trustees overseeing the account have not publicly responded to the latest filing.

Meanwhile, Reiner's criminal case continues to move through the court system. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for September, and prosecutors have not yet determined whether they will seek the death penalty if he is convicted.

The case remains under intense public scrutiny, with many details surrounding the deaths and possible motives still undisclosed.
