Rescuers battled a winter storm in the mountains near Lake Tahoe to reach six backcountry skiers who survived a deadly avalanche.
Authorities say nine other members of the group remain missing. Two of the rescued skiers were hospitalized after crews spent several hours navigating extreme conditions to bring them to safety.
The Nevada County Sheriff's Office coordinated the rescue, with support from the Truckee Fire Department, as snow and ice continued to hamper recovery efforts.
