Army Secretary Dan Driscoll Steps Down

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is stepping down after 18 months on the job, marking the latest leadership change within the U.S. military.
The White House announced Driscoll’s departure Monday but did not provide a reason for his decision to leave the position.
Driscoll’s exit comes amid reported tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and a period of significant change within Army leadership. An ally of Driscoll was removed as the Army’s top uniformed leader in April, and the service has also moved away from a drone modernization program Driscoll had championed.
Driscoll, an Iraq War veteran, was confirmed as Army secretary in February 2025. He is also a longtime friend of Vice President JD Vance, whom he met while attending Yale Law School.
The White House has not yet announced a permanent replacement for Driscoll.
