CA Man Accused Of Throwing Hot Coffee At Fast Food Manager In Attack

A California man with two prior felony convictions is facing the possibility of life in prison -- accused of throwing scalding hot coffee in a restaurant manager's face.

Prosecutors say 64-year-old Willie Anthony Quinn went to a Jack in the Box in San Mateo Saturday morning and asked the manager for free food.

When she refused, a customer stepped in and bought him a meal and a cup of coffee.

But police say Quinn then demanded a fresh cup of coffee -- and became angry when the manager refused.

Investigators say as the manager was escorting him out, Quinn threw the nearly 200-degree coffee on her face and neck.

Police say the woman's skin was already blistering when 911 was called.

Officers used surveillance video to identify Quinn and arrested him the following day.

Police say he was also carrying a small bag of methamphetamine.

Quinn is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault likely to cause great bodily injury and drug possession.

Prosecutors say his prior convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and felony assault with a gun count as two strikes under California law -- putting him at risk of a life sentence.

Quinn has pleaded not guilty and remains in jail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 5.
