Cruise Line Reviewing Summer Sailing Plans After Deadly Hantavirus Outbreak

The company operating the cruise ship linked to a deadly hantavirus outbreak says it expects to decide by the end of the week whether the vessel will continue its planned summer cruise schedule.

The Dutch-flagged MV Hondius had been scheduled to depart later this month for Arctic cruises throughout the summer, according to the company’s website.

Health officials say three passengers have died in the outbreak, including a Dutch couple believed to have first been exposed to hantavirus during a trip through South America.

In total, 11 cases have now been reported worldwide, with nine of those cases confirmed.
Officials continue monitoring former passengers as the investigation into the outbreak continues.
