The Department of Homeland Security is preparing to deploy 250 border agents to Louisiana as part of a major immigration crackdown called “Swamp Sweep.”

Sources who spoke with The Associated Press say the operation is expected to begin in early December and aims to arrest about 5,000 people across southeast Louisiana and Mississippi.

The crackdown is one of several immigration enforcement efforts under the Trump administration. Louisiana’s Republican governor, Jeff Landry, has expressed full support for the operation.
