Evacuated Residents, Hotel Guests Allowed Back Amid Work On Damaged NYC High-Rise

NEW YORK (AP) — Residents and hotel guest are slowly being let into cordoned off Manhattan streets, after columns buckled and floors sagged at an under-construction apartment building, triggering widespread evacuations and street closures over concerns about a collapse. Crews worked through the night to shore up a massive development at the site of the former headquarters of pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed Wednesday that there had been no additional movement in the building since it was deemed stable late Tuesday night. But he said four area buildings remain under full evacuation orders. Some normally busy midtown streets also remain closed.
