FBI Investigates Apparent Breach Of Jobs Website

The FBI is investigating an apparent breach of its employment website after a hacking group claimed it obtained sensitive information involving FBI personnel and people who applied to work for the bureau.
The FBI confirmed Wednesday that it is aware of claims involving unauthorized activity affecting FBIjobs.gov and has opened an investigation. The website, which prospective employees use to learn about careers and begin the application process, remained offline Wednesday morning.
A hacking group known as ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the apparent breach. In a message circulated online, the group alleged it had compromised “very sensitive data” involving nearly all FBI agents and individuals who had submitted job applications to the bureau.
Those claims have not been independently verified, and the FBI has not disclosed what information, if any, may have been accessed. A bureau spokesperson declined to provide additional details while the investigation continues.
ShinyHunters also directed a message to FBI Director Kash Patel and the head of the bureau’s cyber division, demanding the FBI change or remove information from a May public service announcement describing the organization as a cybercriminal group associated with large-scale data breaches and extortion.
The FBI previously warned that groups using the ShinyHunters name may make real or exaggerated claims about accessing sensitive information as part of efforts to pressure or extort victims.
The apparent breach comes months after the FBI disclosed it was investigating suspicious activity involving a separate internal system containing sensitive information connected to surveillance operations and investigations.
The investigation into the FBI jobs website remains ongoing, and federal officials have not announced when the site will return online.
