Federal Court Upholds Illinois Gun Ban

A federal appeals court has upheld Illinois' ban on semiautomatic rifles, large-capacity magazines, and certain firearm accessories, ruling the law does not violate the Second Amendment.

The law was enacted in 2023 following the deadly Highland Park Fourth of July parade shooting that killed seven people and injured dozens more. The Seventh Circuit Court of

Appeals said the restrictions are consistent with the nation's longstanding tradition of firearm regulation.

Gun rights groups say they plan to appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court, which is already preparing to hear challenges involving similar state and local firearm bans.
