Florida Can Enforce Ban On Puberty Blockers, Gender Surgeries For Children, Appeals Court Rules

7 weeks ago A federal appeals court has ruled 2 to 1, that Florida can enforce a ban on puberty blockers for children while they battle a legal challenge against the ban in court.
The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals handed Florida’s Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo a victory, at least for now, reversing an order from a lower court that put the ban on hold while the ban is appealed.
The opinion of the majority stated that,
“The district court itself recognized that there were ‘legitimate concerns’ about some of the treatments’ effects, as well as a ’risk of misdiagnosis,’ ’risks attendant to treatment,‘ and the potential for ’additional medical risks.'”
The court also said that Surgeon General Ladapo and the Florida Board of Medicine made a “strong showing’ and they’re likely to win the appeal.
At the heart of the legal battle is a law that bans doctors and nurses from performing
sex-reassignment surgeries, or prescribing puberty blockers to anyone under the age of 18.
