Former U.S. Rep. Mia Love of Utah has died at 49… The daughter of Haitian immigrants who became the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, passed on Sunday. Love had been undergoing treatment for brain cancer. Her daughter posted March 1 on Love’s X account that the former lawmaker was no longer responding to treatment. Love entered politics in 2003 and won a seat in congress in 2014 in a district that includes suburbs of Salt Lake City. She lost reelection in 2018.

Second lady Usha Vance is set to travel to Greenland this week as President Donald Trump continues to suggest the U.S. could take control of the mineral-rich Artic island. Her office says Vance will leave Thursday and return Saturday. The wife of Vice President JD Vance will be part of a U.S. delegation set to visit historical sites, learn about Greenlandic heritage, and attend Greenland’s national dogsled race. Greenland is a self-governing region of Denmark, a NATO ally of the United States. But Trump has said repeatedly that he thinks the U.S. should take Greenland for strategic and national security purposes.

National security and intelligence experts say Russia, China and other adversaries will seek to take advantage of the opportunity.
