GOP Senators Back Blanche for Attorney General After Fund Is Scrapped

Two Republican senators who had threatened to block Todd Blanche's nomination for attorney general now say they will support advancing his confirmation after the Justice Department formally scrapped a proposed $1.8 billion compensation fund.

Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis had demanded written confirmation that the so-called "Anti-Weaponization Fund" would not move forward. The fund was intended to compensate people who believed they had been unfairly prosecuted by the Justice Department.

With the fund officially rescinded, Blanche's nomination has cleared a key hurdle and is expected to continue advancing through the Senate confirmation process.
