Government Shutdown Begins

The federal government has officially shut down after lawmakers in Washington failed to reach a budget agreement by the deadline.

Roughly 750,000 federal workers are expected to be furloughed. Essential services, including the FBI, CIA, air traffic control, and the armed forces, will continue operating, but employees will not receive pay until funding is restored.

Economic experts say a short shutdown may have minimal impact, but if it continues, financial uncertainty could affect markets and economic growth.

The Senate is expected to vote again later today in hopes of ending the shutdown.
