Horse Carriage Industry Being Phased Out In NYC

(New York, NY) -- New York City's iconic controversial horse-drawn carriage industry is being phased out. Mayor Zohran Mamdani heard from both sides during a lengthy public hearing today ahead of what's expected to be a bill signing that would end the horse carriage industry by June of 2028. Animal rights activists have long pushed for a ban, pointing to animal cruelty and horse-related accidents. The bill does require the city to establish employment opportunity programs for carriage drivers.
