Voters in Iowa are heading to the polls Tuesday in a holiday-week special election that could reshape power in the state Senate.
Democrat Renee Hardman faces Republican Lucas Loftin for a vacant seat representing Des Moines’ suburbs. A Republican win would restore the chamber’s two-thirds supermajority, giving the party easier control over confirmations and special legislative actions.
