Iran Attacks Shipping, Drones Strike Near Dubai Airport

Tensions in the Middle East escalated Wednesday as Iran launched drone and missile attacks across the Persian Gulf while U.S. and Israeli airstrikes continue against the country.

Two Iranian drones struck near Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest travel hubs and home to the long-haul carrier Emirates. Four people were wounded in the attack, though airport officials said flights continued operating.

Iran also targeted commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies. A projectile struck a container ship in the waterway, setting it on fire and forcing most of the crew to abandon the vessel.

In a further escalation, Iran’s military warned it could begin targeting banks and financial institutions across the region, raising concerns in financial hubs such as Dubai, as well as in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The developments have heightened fears of wider disruption in the energy-rich region and increased concerns about global oil supplies if attacks continue.
