Senators voted 64-35 on the bill. Twelve Democrats voted with every Republican in favor of the measure.
The legislation — which says that illegal migrants who are picked up for theft, burglary and other crimes, must be detained instead of being set free in the country.

The bill is named after Laken Riley, the 22-year-old college student who was brutally murdered in Georgia by an illegal migrant from Venezuela who had been arrested for shoplifting ahead of the attack and paroled in the U.S
