A 28-year-old man was killed after being struck by a tractor trailer while fleeing from federal immigration officers during an enforcement operation in northeast Florida.

Authorities said the man was one of four people who ran from a vehicle after it stopped at a gas station in St. Augustine during an encounter with agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations.

Police said the man ran across a busy roadway and into the path of an oncoming semi-truck, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident marks the third death in the past week involving encounters with ICE officers, drawing renewed attention to the agency's enforcement tactics.
