McConnell Says Fall Led To Recent Hospitalization

Sen. Mitch McConnell says a fall was the reason he was hospitalized four weeks ago, ending weeks of speculation about his health.

In a statement released Sunday, the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican said he had been reluctant to discuss the incident because he did not want to "share the vulnerability that comes with growing older."

McConnell said he is continuing to work closely with his staff on Senate business but is not yet ready to return to Washington.

The longtime senator, who contracted polio as a child, has long acknowledged that he has difficulty walking and climbing stairs. He did not provide a timeline for when he expects to resume his duties in person.
