National Guard Deployment In Washington Extended Through Trump’s Term

President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., has been extended through the end of his current term.

The Pentagon says the mission will continue until January 20, 2029, unless the president ends it earlier. Trump initially ordered the deployment in August 2025 as part of his administration’s effort to address crime in the nation’s capital.

The administration says crime has fallen since the deployment began, although local officials maintain that crime rates were already declining before troops arrived.

National Guard members have assisted law enforcement with arrests, responded to medical emergencies and participated in cleanup and beautification projects across the city.
