A Queens mother has been charged with murder in the death of her 25-year-old son with autism, who was found with severe knife wounds inside their family home last week.
The victim, identified as Bryan Wong, was discovered Wednesday, October 14, inside the family's residence on 59th Street in Woodside, Queens.
According to investigators, Wong's father discovered his son unresponsive on a couch in the living room. Wong had suffered cuts to his neck and wrists and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wong was nonverbal and had autism. Neighbors said his mother served as his primary caregiver and was frequently seen accompanying him around the neighborhood.
Investigators recovered several knives from the residence, including one in the living room and others in a bathroom.
Authorities also reportedly discovered a note believed to have been written by Wong's mother, raising suspicions about her involvement in his death.
Hours before Wong's body was discovered, his mother was found seriously injured beneath an overpass along the Van Wyck Expressway in Flushing.
Police believe she jumped from the overpass in an apparent suicide attempt. She survived but suffered multiple fractures, including injuries to her pelvis and leg.
She was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital for treatment.
Investigators subsequently focused on the mother as a suspect in her son's death.
The case has shocked neighbors, many of whom described the family as quiet and said they had watched Wong grow up in the community.
Several residents said Wong's mother appeared devoted to caring for her son, although some recalled seeing her under considerable stress.
The circumstances surrounding Wong's death remain under investigation, including what may have led to the fatal attack.
The murder charge marks a significant development in the investigation, which began after the discovery of Wong's body last week.
The allegations against his mother have not been proven in court.
