Spain is back on top of the soccer world after defeating defending champion Argentina 1-0 in extra time to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Substitute Ferran Torres scored the game's only goal in the 106th minute, lifting Spain to its second World Cup title and first since its 2010 championship. Spain controlled much of the match before finally breaking through late in extra time.
Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, was unable to find the net despite forcing extra time. The defending champions finished the match with 10 players after Enzo Fernández was sent off in second-half stoppage time.
The victory caps an unbeaten tournament for Spain and adds another major international trophy under head coach Luis de la Fuente, whose team also captured the 2024 European Championship.
