Spirit Airlines to Furlough More Than 360 Pilots

Spirit Airlines says it plans to furlough more than 360 pilots and downgrade up to 170 others as part of a sweeping restructuring effort aimed at cutting costs.
The Florida-based budget carrier filed for bankruptcy in August — its second filing in less than a year — and says the reductions are necessary to save about $100 million annually in pilot expenses.
Spirit also plans to reduce its flight attendant and corporate staff as part of the cost-cutting plan. The company said the moves are designed to stabilize operations and help the airline return to profitability.
