Trump Administration Sues Over Gun Laws

The Trump administration has filed federal lawsuits against California and Virginia, challenging newly enacted state laws that restrict the sale of certain semiautomatic firearms.

The Justice Department argues the laws violate the Second Amendment and unlawfully limit Americans' constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Virginia's law bans the sale and manufacture of certain semiautomatic firearms, while
California's measure prohibits gun dealers from selling some handguns that can be easily converted to fully automatic weapons. Attorneys general in both states say they intend to vigorously defend the laws in court.
