Trump Says U.S., Canada Reached ‘Very Fair’ Trade Agreement
4 hours ago
President Donald Trump says the United States and Canada have reached a “very fair” trade agreement following negotiations with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Speaking to reporters at the White House Wednesday, Trump said he had a “very good conversation” with Carney and that the two countries had reached a deal that would benefit both sides.
The president said the agreement would eliminate Canadian tariffs on American farmers and businesses exporting goods to Canada. The administration is also considering reductions in U.S. tariffs on Canadian-made vehicles, steel and aluminum as part of the broader agreement.
The breakthrough follows Trump's decision to temporarily delay planned 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion in Canadian imports while negotiations continued.
Canadian officials have been more cautious about the agreement, saying substantial progress has been made while some details still need to be finalized.
The developments could ease months of trade tensions between the neighboring countries as Washington and Ottawa work toward finalizing the terms of the agreement.
