Trump Sues BBC for $10 Billion Over Jan. 6 Documentary

President Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC, accusing the British broadcaster of defamation and unfair business practices. The suit claims the BBC misrepresented Trump’s January 6, 2021, speech in a documentary that aired ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

The lawsuit seeks $5 billion in damages for defamation and $5 billion for alleged deceptive trade practices.
Trump argues the documentary spliced together portions of his speech to falsely make it appear he urged supporters to march and “fight like hell,” while omitting sections where he called for peaceful demonstrations.

The BBC apologized for what it called an “error of judgment,” but rejected claims of defamation. Trump has said the network “put terrible words in [his] mouth” and is seeking legal redress in a U.S. court after deadlines to sue in Britain expired.
