The U.S. and Israel launched a joint assault on Iran over the weekend, with missiles and airstrike targeting Tehran's leaders, commanders and military installations.

Iran launched retaliatory strikes on neighboring Gulf states in response.

The U.S. described Monday's incident as an apparent friendly-fire episode.

CENTCOM said all six crew members from the three jets ejected from the aircraft safely, were recovered and are in stable condition.

It said that Kuwait had acknowledged the incident and that an investigation was underway.

Kuwait had intercepted hostile drones earlier on same day.

In a separate incident, smoke was seen rising from the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy compound in Kuwait City.

Witnesses told Reuters fire trucks and ambulances were in the area.

There were no responses to requests for comment on the embassy incident from the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, or from the U.S. State Department.
