Hegseth to meet with Musk

19 hours ago Hegseth to meet with Musk/Will discuss 'efficiencies' at Pentagon
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will meet with billionaire Elon Musk at the Pentagon Friday to discuss “innovation, efficiencies & smarter production.” Musk, a top adviser to President Donald Trump and his Department of Government Efficiency have played an integral role in the administration’s push to dramatically reduce the size of the government. Musk has faced intense blowback from some lawmakers and voters for his approach to laying off workers and slashing programs, although Trump’s supporters love it.
A senior defense official told reporters Tuesday that roughly 50,000 to 60,000 civilian jobs will be cut in the Defense Department.
In a post on Musk's X platform, Hegseth emphasized that “this is NOT a meeting about ‘top secret China war plans,'” denying a story published by The New York Times late Thursday.
DOGE blocked from Social Security systems/Block likely temporary
An Obama appointed federal judge has temporarily blocked Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from Social Security Administration systems. The decision from U.S. District Judge Ellen Hollander also requires the team to delete any identifiable data they may have. It comes after labor unions and retirees asked for an emergency order limiting DOGE access to the agency and its vast troves of personal data. The Trump administration wants DOGE to reduce waste and fraud in the federal government.
Judge calls Trump admin response 'woefully insufficient'/ Trump rejects judicial interference in deportations
And another Obama appointed federal judge has instructed the Trump administration to explain why its failure to turn around flights carrying deportees to El Salvador did not violate his court order. It’s a growing showdown between the judicial and executive branches. U.S. District Judge Jeb Boasberg demanded answers after flights carrying Venezuelan gang members landed in El Salvador after the judge temporarily blocked deportations under an 18th century wartime law. Boasberg had directed the administration to return to the U.S. planes that were already in the air when he ordered the halt. The administration has resisted the judge’s request for more details about the flights, calling it an “unnecessary judicial fishing” expedition.
d/scrambling to seek asylum
Illegal immigrants from Afghanistan, Russia, Iran and China are hopping door-to-door at embassies in Panama desperately seeking asylum in any country that would accept them. This comes after they were deported from the United States and dropped into limbo in Panama. The deportees were the focus of international humanitarian concern initially but now worry that with little legal and humanitarian assistance and no clear pathway forward, they may be forgotten.
