Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Computer Dispatch System Remains Down Since New Year’s Eve

2 days ago The aging computer dispatch system for the nation's largest sheriff's department remains out of commission. The system crashed on New Year's Eve, forcing Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies to handle all calls by radio. Deputies first noticed they couldn't log in to the mobile computers in their patrol cars. It wasn’t clear Thursday what caused the problem or how long it will take to fix. Department officials didn’t immediately respond when asked if a malicious attack was involved. The department says its radio communications and 911 lines are fully operational and service continues without interruption. The department has faced challenges with outdated technology for years.
