Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announcing that a new House subcommittee has been created to investigate the events of what happened before and after Jan. 6th. The committee will have the power to summon FBI officials who will have to explain their involvement.
Johnson saying that he’s proud of the work they’ve done to expose the false narratives pushed by the politically motivated Jan. 6 Select Committee, but there is still more work to be done, and the new subcommittee will “uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people”
Johnson also backed President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon the Jan. 6 prisoners
"The president has the the pardon and commutation authority uh it's his decision and um I I think what the the what was made clear all along is that peaceful protests and and people who engage in that, uh, should never be punished. There was a weaponization of the Justice Department. There was a weaponization of the events the following, uh, you know, the, the prosecutor. that happened after January 6th, um, it was a it was a terrible time and a terrible chapter in America's history. The president's made his decision. I don't second guess those and, um, and yes, you know, it's kind of my ethos, my worldview we believe in redemption. We believe in second chances. If you could, you would argue that those people didn't pay a heavy penalty having been incarcerated and all of that, that, that's up to you but um the president's made a decision we move forward there are better days ahead of us. That's what we're excited about. We're not looking backwards or looking forwards."
