Nearly 100 years ago this month, John Scopes -- a substitute high school science teacher in Dayton, Tennessee -- was charged with teaching evolution to his students, violating a state law which prohibited instructors from teaching "any theory that denies the Story of Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible."
