A two-week ceasefire has been reached between the United States, Iran, and Israel, with talks set to begin Friday in Islamabad. President Donald Trump is calling it “a big day for world peace,” saying Iran “wants it to happen” and that the United States will help keep traffic moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said he agreed to suspend strikes for two weeks at the request of Pakistani leaders, noting that the U.S. has already met its military objectives and is close to a long-term peace agreement. He also highlighted a 10-point proposal from Iran, calling it a workable basis for negotiations.
Just hours before the deal, Trump had warned of devastating consequences if an agreement was not reached. Iran confirmed it will enter talks with the U.S. this week. Israel supports the temporary pause in strikes against Iran but says it will continue fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon.
