U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday (December 15) said he would sign an executive order classifying fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction.
"With this historic executive order I will sign today, we're formally classifying fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction, which is what it is," Trump said during an event at the White House.
Trump has cited fentanyl trafficking as a factor in his decision to put tariffs on Mexico, as well as Canada and China.
