U.S. Health Officials Seek To Phase Out Artificial Dyes From The Food Supply

2 weeks ago U.S. health officials say they'll urge foodmakers to phase out petroleum-based artificial colors in the nation’s food supply. But officials stopped short of promising a formal ban and offered few specifics on how they intended to achieve the sweeping change. The FDA currently allows 36 color additives, including eight synthetic dyes. In January, the agency banned the color known as Red 3.
