The World Health Organization is warning about the rapid spread of a rare Ebola variant in eastern Congo.

Health officials say more than 500 cases and at least 131 suspected deaths have been reported as the outbreak continues to grow.

The outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, which currently has no approved treatment or vaccine.

Officials say the virus has now spread into urban areas, raising fears of additional deaths and possible international spread amid an ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
