Judge Restricts ICE Arrests At NYC Courthouses

A federal judge in New York has ruled that immigration agents can no longer make arrests in or around three Manhattan immigration courthouses without exceptional circumstances.

The decision ends a practice that led to numerous arrests of people appearing for immigration proceedings.

The judge said federal agents may still make arrests in cases involving serious public safety threats or other extraordinary situations.

Immigrants’ rights advocates praised the ruling, while federal officials have not publicly commented on the decision.
